Collision off Bozcaada Island in north-eastern corner of the Aegean about 13 miles off the Turkish coast. 8638 dwt Marti Princess was fully loaded with 8000 tons of cement, leaving Gemlik for France. 20,275 dwt containership Renate Schulte was headed for the Dardanelles and a docking at Tuzla. She was extremely light. Time apparently was about 22:00. RS hit MP on port side in the second forward of the accommodations at a near 90 degree angle. The bow bulb sort of rode over the MP deck and penetrated past the other side of the 18.4 m beam MP. Two holds were reported flooded, but the MP did not sink. Ships were separated by ballasting the RP aft, and trimming her bow up. No casualties. No spillage reported. So far no report of any bad weather; photos taken the next day show calm conditions with good visbility.

No cause info yet, but it appears that RS may have been the burdened ship. She may also have had her forward hatch cover opened which together with being very light would have restricted visibility forward, especially for a ship as low in the water as MP was. Both crews are small. MP had just completed loading, and RS crew wouldhave been very busy getting ready for docking. MP is Maltese flag but RS is German so we may get a public flag state report from Germany.
