The 1991 Chinese built, Greek-owned bulk carrier "BET COMMANDER" of 77,090 grt and 149,507 dwt
suffered a steering failure off Port Elizabeth in force 10 winds on 23 June 2009.
The casualty was laden with a cargo of approximately 120,000mt iron ore
loaded in Itaqui, Brazil and destined for China.
Owners contracted with Greek professional salvors, Tsavliris, on the basis of LOF 2000.
Tsavliris sub-contracted a local South African tug which towed the vessel to a place of safety.
