MISLE Case Number:
On December 26, 2008, the M/V ALGOSEA, a 472' steel hull tank ship,
was en route to the International-Matix Tank Terminal, Chesapeake, VA,
and lost power in the Elizabeth River.
The vessel was escorted to the "G1" anchorage at Sewell's Point
by three McAllister tug boats to ensure safe navigation.
A heat sensor in the main engine malfunctioned,
reading the temperature as too high,
causing the engine to shut down.
The component was replaced with a new sensor that was properly functioning.
