PANAGIA LADY; Loss of Electrical Power On: 12/18/2008 MISLE Activity Number: 3403397 Originating Unit: Sector New York MISLE Activity Owner: Commandant (CG-5453) MISLE Activity Controller: Commandant (CG-5453) MISLE Case Number: I. INCIDENT BRIEF On December 18, 2008, the T/S PANAGIA LADY was underway in the Arthur Kill outbound for sea. Shortly after getting underway the vessel Engineers were paralleling the number 1 and 2 generators, the load was uneven and the main breaker panel tripped blacking out all electrical services on the ship. The number 3 generator was brought on-line and power was restored. The main diesel engine shutdown was due to a reduction in the supply of fuel oil to the main diesel engine, which was caused by the power loss. The engine was restarted and the vessel transited to anchorage as directed by the Coast Guard. The vessel safely anchored without further incident.

In theory, one generator should be plenty but due to loose Class Rules, normally it is not. Assuming ballast.
