This office was notified via marine casualty report(2692) of an equipment failure resulting in main engine shutdown which occured on board the MT GENMAR PROGRESS on January 23, 2007 at approximately 1107 in the vicinity of Delaware Bay Brandywine range (buoy 16). Class report (DNV) diagnosed the problem the result of a defective connection of the solenoid cut off fuel valve resulting in a small air leak which caused the shut down servomotor to be activated and shut the main engine down. The fuel valve was repaired and leaking air servomotor valve replaced. No further action.
