It is suspected that the 2004-built, 106,499 dwt
crude oil tanker Petrovsk dragged its anchor
across a pipeline while anchored for lightering
in the Gulf Of Mexico.
The pipeline was ruptured
causing the leakingof an estiamted 44,500 gallons of crude oil.
The pipeline was shut down after ruptuing
but continued to leak about 500 gallons per day
until divers managed to seal it on 1 January.
