Crank case explosion on loaded VLCC in Skagerrak just off Skagen,
just after completion of ship to ship loading.
Fortunately ship was able to anchor.
Problem was 25 mm hole in piston crown after 576 running hours.
CE blamed bad reconditioning.
Repairs appear to have taken at least a couple of days.
Ship was not released unti 20050924.
Danish investigators found the oil mist detector
was wrongly calibrated, no paper in the alarm printer.
If the weather had been bad,
this could easily have been another Amoco Cadiz.
ITOPF claims this ship was involved in some kind of spill
in Japan, 2005-02-24,
but so far we have no other info.
