Norwegian registered, 60,800 GRT, 243mt M/T Gerrita, in ballast with 21 crew -- lost engine power due to mechanical breakdown -- drifting 80 miles NW of North end of Shetland -- no immediate danger - Shetland Coastguard continues to monitor the situation carefully.

UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency sent emergency response vessel M/V Anglian Sovereign to the tanker, which was about 70 NM north-west of Shetlands in winds of F7-8 and waves of 5-10m. M/V Anglian Sovereign reached the disabled NIS-registered tanker at 1015 Feb. 20 -- 3 harbor tugs assisting tanker to berth.

GERRITA (NIS, 112046dwt) Carribean to Murmansk had mechanical breakdown and lost power at about 80 miles SW of Shetland Island, with winds force 8 and 10 mtr-waves –19 Feb-2005. UK Coastguard tug urgently proceeded to vsl for towing with another 4 tugs to assist at Sullom Voe.

The 112,046dwt tanker Gerrita has arrived at Sullom Voe, Shetland Islands this evening under tow after losing power on Saturday morning en route from the Caribbean to Murmansk, Russia. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency sent the emergency response vessel Anglian Sovereign to the tanker, which was about 70 n-miles north-west of the Shetlands in winds of F7-8 and waves of 5-10m. The Sovereign reached the disabled NIS-registered tanker at 1015 yesterday, and three harbour tugs are assisting in bringing the tanker to berth. Gerrita is operated by Navion Maritime and owned by Ugland International Holdings
