On 4 September 2004 the 1997 built chemical/products tanker
"CAPE BANKS" (33,540 deadweight)
constructed with 14 tanks grounded in the approaches to Mersin port
on no less than three separate occasions.
"CAPE BANKS" was contracted to deliver to Mersin
five parcels of 28,862mt of gas oil.
The casualty was refloated twice with the assistance of local tugs.
However, after the third grounding,
it was necessary for a lightening tanker to be chartered.
The "ADRASAN C" received about 7,800mt of oil
before "CAPE BANKS" was refloated by tugs
and delivered to her discharge berth.
