Irving Oil has been fined for an oil spill
in the Charlottetown Harbour last year.
The incident occurred during a blizzard
that hit the island on Feb 19.
The tanker Irving Eskimo was transferring oil ashore
when high winds snapped on the lines mooring the ship.
The Eskimo shifted, spilling oil into the water.
The captain originally thought 450l had been spilled.
Later calculations showed the actually [sic] amount
was closer to 15l.
Irving was ordered to pay a Cdlr5000 fine
and make a Cdlr10,000 donation to the University of PEI.
