At 1325 on 14 December 2003
the 585 ft, 12697 GT Greek flag freight ship KRITI ART
attempted to get underway from AMA Anchorage
at mile marker 116 on the Lower Mississippi River.
The main engine did not respond to remote operation.
An investigation revealed a diaphragm
for the ahead and astern control solenoid had a hole.
The diaphragm was replaced and the
engine was tested in the presence of an ABS class surveyor.
The surveyor confirmed that the engine operated properly, with
proper operation of both the local and remote pneumatic controls.
