On 28 Nov 03, at approximately 0440, the Motor Tanker (M/T) BRAVERY could not get her main engine to start from the bridge or the control room after departing the dock at Motiva. The M/T BRAVERY immediately dropped their starboard anchor then returned to the Motiva dock with the assistance of two tugs. The Captain of the Port New Orleans ordered the M/T BRAVERY to have their classification society, Lloyds, attend the vessel. Due to the nature of the problem the M/T BRAVERY brought in a technician from Swiss Diesel Inc. to inspect their engine. The class survey identified debris in a pneumatic line which caused the engine air start to fail. The debris was removed and the engine was tested in all modes while at berth and found to be operating satisfactory to class. No pollution, damage or injuries resulted from this incident.
