Received 2692 on October 29, 2003 stating
that at about 0609 on October 28, 2003,
while transiting from El Segundo, CA,
T/V CYGNUS VOYAGER loss propulsion
due to the main engine failing for about 6 minutes. 29 Oct 2003:
The vessel's Classification Society, ABS,
determined that a sluggish fuel rack
on the #3 diesel generator prevented it (from
paralleling and) taking an additional load,
hence the #2 generator then shut down due to overload
and that caused the engine failure and loss of propulsion.
The crew performed immediate service on the equipment
and will modify the vessel's maintenance schedule
to ensure regular lubrication of the fuel pump racks
and changing over of the generators to avoid sluggishness.
CONCLUSION: ABS inspected repairs and new maintenance schedule procedures.
ACTION TAKEN: No other action taken by CG.
