On 20 Jul 2003 at 1915 hrs, the 665 ft., 21937 GT tankship CHILBAR lost electrical power.
The #2 SSTG failed while paralled with #1 SSTG.
This caused an overloaded condition on #1 SSTG
and the main circuit breaker opened
resulting in a blackout of the electrical plant.
The apparent cause of the incident was a faulty slip ring
wire on the rotating field rectifier of #2 SSTG.
The wire was replaced
and the generator was placed back in service with satisfactory results.
No injuries or pollution was reported.
