At 0755 on July 4, 2003, the T/V HYDE PARK was getting underway from berth when it suffered a loss of propulsion. The vessel was able to maneuver back to berth without incident. The vessel had satisfactory tested its forward and backing bells prior to sailing but once underway the ship did not answer the backing bells and the engine did not start.

No location, but reported by MSO New York. Assuming tugs reberthed her.

This is the same ship that lost power in the Mississippi 1999-02-27 and drifted for 13 miles with multiple allisions and collisions.

MSO New Orleans almost always gets to the cause of these kinds of casualties. MSO New York almost never. USCG HQ does not seem to care.
