On 28 Jun 2003, at 1300 hours the T/S EAGLE SUBARU, a 735 FT, 52504 GT, Singapore flagged tankship was mooring at Exxon Mobile Chalmette Terminal MM 88 on the Lower Mississippi River (LMR). The vessel had already sent mooring lines ashore and was almost in position when the main engine failed to respond to an ahead command. The vessel was made fast with the assistance of 3 attending tugs. The crew investigated and found sticky air distributor valves on cylinders Nos. 2, 6, and 7. Maintenance was performed and the main engine was tested satisfactorily. NKK provided a class report attesting to the proper operation of the main engine. No secondary casualty, injuries, or pollution reported.
