The loaded 533ft diesel powered T/S,
while departing 9-mile anchorage on the Mississippi River,
suffered a M/E power loss
when the M/E bearing non-drive motor bearing temperature sensor
showed abnormally high temperatures and shut the main engine down.
No injuries, damage or pollution resulted.
Tugs assisted the vessel to nearby 12-mile anchorage.
The apparent cause was a malfunctioning bearing sensor.
The socket connection in the wiring to the temperature sensor
had come loose causing abnormally high temperature sensor reading
when the bearing temperature was actually normal.
The ships crew soldered the wiring.
