The tanker laden with fuel oil from Klaipeda and bound for Copenhagen for orders ran aground off the Danish coast on 11 September. Wijsmuller Salvage rendered salvage services under LOF and after lightening part of the cargo the vessel was refloated.

Master chose not to use a pilot. Picked a non-recommended course for his draft of 11.2m. Had to slow for traffic, lost steerage and grounded at 2 knots. Hull was not breached.

Danish report rightly criticizes the master's choice of route. Also questions his decision not to use a pilot. Apparently, the rules about mandatory pilotage were a little unclear. Says nothing about the lack of low speed manueverability. They took that for granted. Calling this a seamanship error, since the master put himself in a tight spot unnecessarily. But twin screw could well have allowed him to get away with his mistake.
