The M/V SHIFTER II was inbound to the Sabine Neches waterway with loaded barge, DM 970. The M/V SHIFTER II was being overtaken by the M/T EAGLE AUGUSTA east of beacon #64, near the Vessel Repair shipyard. The speed of the overtaking tanker created suction and caused the vessels to draw toward one another. The vessels collided on the starboard side of the M/V SHIFTER II at the No.4 port ballast tank of the M/T EAGLE AUGUSTA. No property damage was reported by either vessel.
