Good MAIB report.
Willy had just discharged gasoline Plymouth
and was ordered to anchor for orders in Cawsand Bay.
When the wind veered to the the east the lee shore anchorage
became exposed and dangerous.
Ship was pitching heavily.
Anchor dragged and she went ashore.
Ship did not put out extra chain.
Engine was not put on standby.
GPS guard ring was purposely set at three times
the anchor swing radius to avoid false alarms.
OOW did not detect dragging until the alarm went off,
even tho it was observed and reported from shore.
By the time thery got the engines started,
the ship had grounded.
All crew rescued by ropes from shore.
Even tho not gas-free, there was no fire.
Ended up CTL.
