The spill occured in the early hours of the morning, when there was an accidental release of unleaded petrol from the Tasman which was loading at Holden Dock, Yarraville. In a statemenent, Mobil said the spill occured when the vessel was discharging water ballast, a normal practrice when loading. "The ballast storage are was apparently breached and unleaded petrol became mixed in with the vessel's ballast water and was thus discharged." We estimate that 4000 litres of product was spilled".
