The Panama Canal was partially blocked after a Greek tanker spilled about 162 gallons of crude oil during a southbound transit of one of the waterways three sets of locks. Staff detained the tanker Neapolis as it passed thru the Pedro Miguel lock, after they spotted the vessel leaking crude oil, the Panama Canal Authority said in a news release.

Ship was in the Pedro Miguel Lock when spill was noted which contained spill. This is a Panamax ship with 105 ft beam, but one source says Canal officials claim ship never came into contact with lock. Some volume estimates much lower, down to 162 gallons. Ship was Pacific bound.
