Taking water in heavy seas off Cape Town n lat 32.22.9S, long 15.33.25E in July 93. Holed in port side and severe damage to shell plating near No 5 cargo hold.

Bulk carrier RIVER PLATE, Panama, built 1974, on passage from Brazil to the Far East and loaded with iron ore, takes water through a hole in the shell plate in way of hold 5. As she is close to Cape Town, the master ask for an helicopter to disembark 40 of the 46 crew. She stays two weeks in False bay to carry out temporary repairs.
