Explosion and fire in forward tanks off Sao Sebastiao Dec 30 1991 Beached with tanks flooded Aftpart gradually separated from forepart Wreck removal operations commenced Feb 22 1992 Stern section towed out and sank in 25 15 S 44 20 W. One crew member killed. Remainder of vessel removed for scrap.

Newcastle P+I Clubs Alina P, a 50,000 ton tanker, exploded and sank in Brazil, with all 15 tanks common and open to the sea. Tital removed and refloated the engine room, comfired vessel stability, and then had it sanitized and scuttled at sea. All remaining tanks were cut, removed from a depth of 70 ft, and disposed of.

No talk of a spill. SSY must be wrong. Other sources say ship was in ballast, which makes more sense.
