1990-Oct. Bulker GALLANT DRAGON, 123126 dwt, 24 years old, loaded with iron ore, sustains a fractured side shell after leaving Brazil. Later it was deemed to be unfit for repairs, was scuttled and took exactly 7 seconds to sink.

One bulk carrier that narrowly avoided this fate was the 24 year old Gallant Dragon. in 1991 [sic], the ship limped into port with a crack 50 m long in its hull. It was scuttled shortly thereafter and went down in 7 seconds.

Struck submerged object off Tubarao in Brazil after loading iron ore for Japan. Scuttled.

Not in Japanese FSA? Story about submerged object seems unlikely. Not clear what the 6/7/8 seconds sinking time is based on; but we do know that a bulk carrier loaded with iron ore can sink very rapidly, and presumably this one was already partially flooded.
