After collision wit the trawler Diane Marie on 12 May 1990, the tanker Rosebay, sailing fromt he Persian Gulf to Rotterdam, spilled 1,000 tonnes of crude in the open sea.

The remaining oil was transferred to another tanker.

Dispersant spraying operations helped removing 50 and 75% of the spilled oil from the sea. The preocess was enhanced by evaporation and natural dispersion. As a result only a small amount of the mousse reached the coast.

MCA says 1073 tons. ETC says 8063 barrels.

No cause info but the trawler was probably the striker. The trawler must have hit the VLCC pretty hard to hole it. And why did they transfer. In most cases, it would be safer to pull the tank down a bit and proceed to the discharge port.
