On June 22, 1987, while on a voyage from Los Angeles to Masan
loaded with 22,400 tons of scrap steel,
the South Korean motor bulk carrier
reported flooding in her engine room
when approximately 110 miles south of Ashizuri Misaki.
All 24 crew members safely abandoned their listing ship,
being rescued by the LPG carrier Clean River.
As the seas became rougher, the list of the Star carrier
continually increased until she sank in lat 31.28N, long 132.05E
on June 25.
