The Spanish motor bulk carrier Luchana was en route from Almeria to Aviles, loaded with 13000 tons of iron ore, when she broke in two and sank during a storm about 6 miles north of Gijon on January 15, 1986. Three of the 28 persons on board drowned, while the bosun died after being rescued.
