The 300,070 dwt Greek steam tanker Canaria
was on a ballast passage from Sirri Island to Kharg Island
when she was struck by an Exocet missile
that had been fired by an Iraqi warplane
while she was about 70 miles from Kharg Island
in lat 28.10N, long 51.00E at about 3.40 pm on Nov 5 1985.
There were no casualties but,
with her engine room severely fire damaged and flooded,
she was abandoned by her crew with the exception
of the master, who decided to stay on board.
