The 300,070 dwt Greek steam tanker Canaria was on a ballast passage from Sirri Island to Kharg Island when she was struck by an Exocet missile that had been fired by an Iraqi warplane while she was about 70 miles from Kharg Island in lat 28.10N, long 51.00E at about 3.40 pm on Nov 5 1985. There were no casualties but, with her engine room severely fire damaged and flooded, she was abandoned by her crew with the exception of the master, who decided to stay on board. CTL

She finally reached Kaohsiung in July, 1986. During breaking she exploded, presumably due to poor tank cleaning. 14 killed, 84 injured, and thousands of apartment windows were shattered. Resulted in new breaking rules.
