While on a ballast passage northward from Sirri Island to Kharg, the Kypros was hit by an Iraqi warplane's Exocet missile at 10.05 pm on April 16, 1985 when about 30 miles SE of Kharg Island in lat 28.06N, long 50.52E. The missle struck the engine room which immediately burst into flames, but only one Filipino crewman was injured. Without power, the Kypros was taken in two arriving off Dubai onApril 20. CTL
