On March 4, 1985, while en route from Kandla, NW India to Chittagong,
carrying a cargo of 15,328 tonnes of salt
and 1,800 tons of bentonite, the Panamanian motor bulk carrier Tanfory
was abandoned by her crew
following flooding of three holds
about 60 miles off Trincomalee
in lat 07.50N, long 83.10E.
All her crew members were safely picked up by the motor tanker
Kriti Samaria, which landed them at Columbo.
The tanfory was presumed to have sunk soon afterwards.
