The Greek motor tanker San Nikitas was en route from Husum, Sweden to Ventspils, Latvia when she ran hard aground near Finngrundet in lat 61.10N, long 18.24E on December 22, 1983. Leaking badly she was refloated four days later with the assistance of three tugs, then towed to Hudiksvall, before being towed to Naantali to be drydocked. Withe severe bottom damage being found, she was declared a constructive total loss and sold to Finnish shipbreakers for scrap.
