Having sailed from Zawia, Libya,
carrying a cargo of 20,000 tons of diesel oil
bound for either Algeria or Great Britain,
the Greek motor tanker Manamaria was abandoned by her crew
due to a fire in the engine room
when approximately 37 miles west of Lampedusa Ialand
in lat 35.36N, long 11.48E on June 8, 1982.
All 27 crew members safely abandoned the blazing vessel,
being taken on board the motor bulk carrier O Solo Mio.
The seriously damaged Manamaria was towed to Augusta
before proceeding to Piraeus.
Declared a CTL, she was then broken up.
