The Cayman Islands registered motor tanker Gogo Rider was on a voyage from Rangoon to west Europe carrying a cargo of 12,617 tons of fuel oil, when she was abandoned by all 33 persons on board off Socotra Island in lat 13.09N, long 54.13 E, on November 6,1981, due to being on fire in the engine room and accomodation, The 33, including 31 crewmen, an officer's wide and child, were all safely picked up by the Russian trawler Shatalovo, which proceeeded to Mulalla.
