While on a voyage from Freeport Bahamas to Buenos Aires,
loaded with a cargo of 19,083 tons of crude oil,
the Gibraltar registered steam tanker Globe maritime
experienced boiler and machinery breakdowns
when approximately 200 miles north of Puerto Rico
during the period September 5-10 1981.
After being towed to Jacksonville on September 19,
she was declared a CTL and subsequently sold by the US Marshal
at a forced auction.
