While on a ballast passage from Augusta to Genoa,
the Italian motor tanker Polluce sustained extensive damage
as a result of a fire breaking out in her engine room,
when near Cape Corse on June 29, 1981.
When the fire spread uncontrollably,
the 29 crew members abandoned ship.
Still ablaze, the Polluce was then towed to Leghorn Roads,
where the fire was extinguished,
before being towed to La Spezia to be laid up.
Declared a CTL, she was broken up at La Spezia in 1982.
