While loading a cargo of crude oil at Jebel Dhanna,
with 32,000 tons already on board, the Greek motor tanker Anna Xyla
caught fire following explosions in her pump room and engine room
omMay 20, 1981. Three of her crew suffered serious burns
but after all on board had been taken off, the blazing vessel
was towed out and beached in shallow water.
The engine room then flooded.
After being refloated on May 28,
oil on board was transferred to another vessel.
Declared a CTL, towed to Fujairah, used a a slop vessel,
scrapped in 1984.
