The Greek motor bulk carrier Rio Bravo was on a voyage
from New York to Karachi, carrying a cargo of steel scrap,
wheh she sank about 500 mi west of the Azores
in lat 36.56N, 40.07W on March 24, 1981,
after sustaining a hull fracture and taking in water.
Just prior to being abandoned by the crew,
a fire broke out which completely engulfed the vessel.
All 27 men were safely picked up by the LPG carrier Hardanger,
which landed them in Bermuda.
