The Greek motor bulk carrier Rio Bravo was on a voyage from New York to Karachi, carrying a cargo of steel scrap, wheh she sank about 500 mi west of the Azores in lat 36.56N, 40.07W on March 24, 1981, after sustaining a hull fracture and taking in water. Just prior to being abandoned by the crew, a fire broke out which completely engulfed the vessel. All 27 men were safely picked up by the LPG carrier Hardanger, which landed them in Bermuda.

No mention of bad weather. Fire is strange on a pure bulker. Maybe the cargo was steel turnings which can catch on fire. Nil info.
