The Greek motor vessel Antiparos, with a crew of 35, left the Canadian port of Contrecoeur near Montreal on November 11, 1980 bound for Osaka, loaded with 21410 tons of scrap. She bunkered at Los Angeles, fr4om where she sailed on Decmber 8, with her ETA being January 7, 1981. On January 2, 1981, she reported her position to be lat 33.16N, long 153.40E, while the following day, at 08.47 GMT, the last message ever received from the vessel advised that she was having difficulties in heavy seas. An air and sea search failed to find any trace of the vessel or her crew.
