All 37 crewmen of the Greek motor bulk carrier Theomitor were safely rescued when their vessel sank in near gale force winds and heavy seas in mid-North Atlantic east of Newfoundland in lat 47.27N, long 38.43W on August 14, 1980 after taking in water through a cracked hull. The Theomitor was on a loaded voyage from Lulea, Sweden to Philadelphia with 40,000 tons of iron ore.

No 7 hold flooded and sank. Ore loaded.

Flooding one hold should not sink ship, especially in not really bad weather. On top of that ship appears not to have been full loaded. Clearly we dont know the whole story.
