Ship was in ballast. Crew said they had completed tank cleaning 20 days earlier. Big explosion in Straits of Hormuz inbound to Das Island. Explosion was in the vicintiy of No 9 starboard tank, which contained 354 tons of slops. Big hole in starboard side. Fuel oil leakage. Broke in two on the December 15.

Explosion in No 9 slop tank. Fire and explosion spread to other tanks due to failure to use inert gas system in cargo tanks and inability to start fire and foam pumps.
