Ship was en route El Brega to Constanza, loaded with 95,852 LT of Libyan crude. Weather was fine and clear as she approached Ormos Kalon Limenon to anchor for bunkers. Third mate was navigating getting position be radar bearing and range. Unforntunately, radar was on 3 mile scale and ship thought it was on 6 mile. Failed to check with visual bearings or the fact that apparent speed was double actual. By the time they realized their mistake could not avoid hitting islet. Forepeak tank and bow were badly damaged. Master compounded matters by backing onto shore which damaged bottom from 4's aft.

Cedre paper says 16602 tons, grounding.

Presumably GPS might have helped. Twin screw might have got them out of trouble. But so much sheer stupidity hard to say if anything would have helped.
