On February 13, 1977, while on a voyage from Vancouver to Osaka
with a cargo of about 13,000 tons of scrap inher holds
and 2000 tons of cargo on deck,
the Liberian motor bulk carrier Rose S
reported that she was taking in water in a hold
during a very heavy swell some 1200 miles WNW of Midway Island
in lat 31.03N, long 162.40E.
Her SOS was picked up in Tokyo,
Vladivostok and Adak AK.
A search for the vessel by the USCG,
located only floating logs, a liferaft, and a name plate.
All 31 of her South Korean crewmen
were presumed to have gone down with the vessel.
