Following discharge of 95,000 tons of crude oil at the ESSO SBM off Jurong on October 28, 1975, the 123,484 dwt Greek motor tanker Kriti Sun was struck by lightning at 6 am during a severe storm, resulting in massive explosions and fire on board. The vessel subsequently broke her back and sank. There were 37 crewmen and 10 local shipyard workers onboard at the time of the blast. They all managed to abandon ship but 7 suffered injuries, two of them badly burned. The master said his ship was struck amidships by lightning, igniting oil fumes in empty tanks.

Kasel Salvage says vessel was struck by lightning, exploded and sank at the Esso SBM, Pulau Ayer.

Pretty clear ship was not inerted, despite being built in 1974, but we could use confirmation.

Ship may have been doing post-discharge cargo survey in which case at least some of the ullage lids would have been open.

What were 10 shipyard workers doing on-board a nearly new ship during a discharge? No repair work is allowed during a discharge.

The lmiu number for this ship is 33030. Why no LR number?
