The Newcastle registered steam tanker Forthfield
was en route from Puerto Ordaz to Genoa
loaded with fuel oil when she ran aground
in the Rio Orinoco on Janyary 27, 1975.
After being refloated, she diverted to Port of Spain
with leakage and, after undergoing temporary repairs,
proceeded to Genoa, then Marseilles for an inspection.
Such extensive bottom damage was found
that she was declared a constructive total loss
and sold to Spanish shipbreakers for demolition at Burriana.
