All 32 men on board the Norwegian motor bulk carrier Anita were lost with their vessel in very severe North Atlantic weather in March 1973. The Anita had loaded a cargo of coal at Newport News from where she sailed at 7:15 am on March 21, bound for Bremen. her last contact was an Amver report timed at 0230 GMT on March 22 in which she stated she was headed for a position north of the Azores. Nothing further was heard of her until a raft and a lifeboat marked with her name were found.
