[photo of] Niarchos tanker " World Miracle " in a disabled condition, during a voyage from Mina Al Ahmadi ( Kuwait ) to Hamburg ( Germany ), in the Indian Ocean, off Socotra Island, on 29th May 1971.

Unknown photographer, probably a crew member on one of the two assisting tugs, the German Bremen or the Danish Svitzer. The photo was given to me, 36 years ago, by Nick Giannakopoulos, the 2nd officer of World Miracle at the time of the incident.

Photo shows the ship very low in the water aft. Guessing engine room flooded. Ship was almost certainly loaded.

This ship was on bareboat to Mobil for 15 years as ex-Mobil Astral, then Mobil Tide. As Mobil Astral she had killer fire in 1960. See 19600325_001. Redelivered in 1965. According to Auke Visser: In 1968 she was lengthened and deepened to LOA 750 ' 6 " Draught 39 ' 1 1/2" 43,310 SDWT. She was converted in 1973 to a non-propelled tank cleaning barge.
