At about 1 AM on March 18, 1971, while moored in ballast at the Hess Terminal, Perth Amboy, the ore/oil motor vessel Trade Daring developed a fire in her engine room which spread to the accommodation. The fire was of such intensity that it raged for 8 hours before being brought under control, but none of the 35 crewmen were injured.

Ship was CTL but ended up being repaired. New name Nikos Kazantakis.

Ship was bunkering at the time. Court found that the ship had signaled the bunker barge to stop pumping, but failed to check that it actually had stopped. Barge kept pumping, tank overflowed, some of the oil spilled on to a generator, and ignited. Court found barge/ship, 25/75 liable.

Not same Trade Daring which broke back loading, 19941115.
