While en route from Ras Tanura to Nagasaki
with a cargo of naptha, the Liberian motor tanker
Warwick Trader was abandoned by her crew
aftger she caught fire in her engine room
when in the Persian Gulf approximately 5 miles NW of Jas Farur
in lat 26.22N, long 54.26E on July 14, 1970.
The furiously blazing vessel continued to drift,
being ripped by explosions,
until being taken in tow to off Zarqa Island, near Das Island,
where she was anchored.
Such was the extent of the damage that the Warwick Trader
was declared a constructive total loss and sold to
Taiwanese shibreakers, being towed to Kaohsiung in April 1971
for demolition.
