The tanker, carrying 49,400 tonnes of Arabian light crude oil, hit rocks near Cies Island (Galicia) after pilot error. A fire broke out in the ship, killing 23 crew members. 15,000 were spilled over.

All 39 people on Norwegian MT Polycommander including four women and two children, rescued after grounding Muxieiro Point, Cies Islands, Vigo Bay. Ship was enroute Sidon to Donges with 49,414 tons of crude. Had called at Vigo to land sick crew member. Grounding occured 10 miles from port. Slick reportedly set on fire by passing fishing vessel. Ship engulfed in flame from stern to midship. Sold as is and later became Yanxilas.

Obviously, need more info on cause. And we have a big discrepancy in deaths. For now, assuming the more detailed Hooke is right but hard to see how everybody could get off safely.
